Arnold

Is it me, or does Arnold just seem wrong for a western? I mean it was a stretch getting Jackie Chan into a western in Shanghai Noon/Knights.

Donald Sutherland Cast as President Snow in ‘The Hunger Games’

Posted by flutieman07

Casting for the upcoming Lionsgate adaptation of best-selling novel The Hunger Games has been firing on all cylinders, and now they've managed to fill one of the biggest roles left with a pretty awesome name.

Donald Sutherland has been cast in the role of President Snow..He's the main villain for the entire run of the series, and despite his minute presence in the first book, he plays a major role over the course of the trilogy (seeing as I'm only on the second book, Catching Fire, I still haven't heard much from him, but he definitely has an intimidating presence in the chapters I've read so far).

Overall, this new franchise is shaping up nicely....I really think they may have found the next Harry Potter replacement with this one.  The buzz surrounding this one rivals the madness that has surrounded the Potter series for the past 10 years!  All the promo photos have been great...the real payoff is going to be when we finally get a trailer!

Weekend Musings: ‘Hangover 2′ & ‘Kung Fu Panda 2′

Posted by markiemark1112

I knew that The Hangover Part II would be popular....but I wasn't quite expecting this kind of performance. 86.5 million for the weekend, 30 million additional on Thursday.  I would expect it pulls another 15 mil. at least on the Memorial Day Holiday.

Typically these types of movies are hugely frontloaded due to all the fanboys out there.  I won't be surprised when next weekends box office loses 60%....

Bring on X-Men: First Class.

New One-Sheet for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Posted by

Twitter exploded earlier with the reveal of the first official one-sheet poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.   Here it is:

I really like how Warner Bros. is shifting away from the Part I and Part II business and really selling this as an overall experience.  This poster seems to be a very good indication of what to expect from David Yates and co. once Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I rolls around in November.

I've enclosed the trailer from earlier in the week after the jump...

Prince of Persia now the Highest-Grossing Video Game Movie Ever!

Posted by

I can't express how excited I am to see Prince of Persia earning enough at the box-office to overtake Tomb Raider as the most succesful video game movie of all time.

Despite mediocre performance at theaters here in the United States, Prince of Persia has dominated overseas and has accumulated nearly $300 million in worldwide ticket sales.

I'm not sure how it didn't take off more.  I thought it was an incredibly exciting movie, even if you have no exposure to the videogames it is based on.  I have played and thoroughly enjoy the games that have come out lately, so that only made the payoff on the bigscreen that much better.  Also,  Alfred Molina totally steals his scenes with some hilarious one-liners.  I thought they totally nailed the look of the game (wall jumps!) and the effects when time is turned back looked great!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and the man clearly knows what he's doing....I personally can't wait to see this one again on Blu-ray, and perhaps one day they'll actually try a sequel.  There have been worse movies with sequels greenlit faster, so I can only hope Disney does the right thing.

Guy Ritchie Looking at Daniel Day Lewis for Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2?

Posted by

I hope there's some truth to this rumor, because I have the feeling Daniel Day-Lewis could pull off an awesome villain in this film.

I've never seen Gangs of New York, but I've heard good things and the guy takes stuff seriously.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the first Sherlock Holmes turned out.  Robert Downey Jr. was pretty hilarious, and the way the pieces of the plot fit together for the final reveals was very cool!  I also tend to wonder if they'll push for a summer release on this follow-up.

/Film also mentions the possibility of either Brad Pitt or Gary Oldman as possibly stepping into the role. Honestly, any of those 3 are pretty big names.  It'll be interesting to see who wins out.  I'm pulling for Daniel Day-Lewis all the way.

Scream 4 Has a Gilmore Girl!

Posted by

Just saw a bunch of updates roll in saying Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Parenthood) has been cast in the upcoming reboot/relaunch of the Scream franchise.

If anything, this just adds a little more credibility to the production.  Lauren Graham has proven herself time after time, and she'll bring some experience to an otherwise very young cast.

She'll apparently play Kate, the mother of Emma Roberts' character Jill Kessler.

My only observation, that I just mentioned to some co-workers is that with Graham always playing the good side of things, she'd make a prime candidate to end up being the killer at the end.  Who wouldn't give anything to see how Lauren Graham actually pulled off playing the baddie?!

This has to be the first time I've ever been excited for the release of a horror movie in theaters.

 Scream 4 arrives on April 15th, 2011.

The Beginning of the End: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Wraps

Posted by

Saturday marked the official end of principal photography on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, thereby also marking the end of filming for the Harry Potter series.

This is just the beginning of a 1-year journey to the final Potter movie ever released in a theater.

I've really dreaded the end of this franchise. Back in the day, I started out as a hater, but one day in college my roommate was watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and I just happened to stick around to catch it.

Little did I know that it would impact me in the way it did. I'm happy to see how mainstream Harry Potter has come over the course of the past 9 years, but you must admit, we're losing one heck of an awesome franchise.

That said...I can't wait for these final two films to be released!

Rumor Musing: Don Quixote in Development?

Posted by

I've long been a fan of the Don Quixote story...I first read it back in Spanish class during high school, and it's been a project I've liked to see come to the big screen at some point.

Perhaps this latest development means they may actually push to get this out.  After the success of the Sherlock Holmes reinvention, I think they've got something to go with here.

Hopefully they wouldn't go the route of a sequel, because I'm just not sure where they'd go with that.
